Painter – Fire truck manufacturing

Job summary

Under the supervision of the team leader, the painter is responsible for applying paint and finishing products to fire truck bodies, chassis, and components to ensure a high-quality and durable finish. The painter also plans and oversees the work of the painter’s assistant and the sander/polisher.

Main responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting (sanding, cleaning, degreasing, masking).
  • Apply primers, sealers, base coats, and finishes according to established procedures.
  • Mix paints and varnishes according to formulas and technical specifications.
  • Perform paint touch-ups and corrections as needed.
  • Inspect the quality of the work and correct any imperfections.
  • Plan and supervise the work of the painter’s assistant and the sander/polisher.
  • Maintain inventory of products used.
  • Comply with health and safety standards as well as environmental procedures related to chemical products.
  • Collaborate with the production team (bodybuilders, assemblers, electricians) to meet manufacturing schedules.

Skills and Qualifications Sought

  • Practical knowledge of painting (industrial, automotive, heavy truck, or heavy machinery).
  • Knowledge of spray techniques. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage priorities.
  • Resourcefulness, autonomy, and sense of responsibility. Precision, attention to detail, and thoroughness.
  • Team spirit and professional rigor.
  • Good manual dexterity and physical endurance.

Requirements and Competencies

  • Vocational diploma (DEP) in bodywork/painting or equivalent experience (an asset).
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in vehicle, heavy equipment, or metal structure painting (an asset).
  • Knowledge of polyurethane paint products (a plus).
